Still good business out there in IT, but companies are cutting fees and costs
There is still a lot of recruiting happening in the IT industry, but companies are cutting fees and overall costs, said Karen Geldenhuys, MD of IT recruitment company, Abacus Recruitment.
“Our recruitment turnover during January is already up on last January,” said Geldenhuys, ‘but our customers are pushing for us to cut our commissions.
“But the IT industry is very resilient and companies are always looking for skilled personnel – despite the serious downturn in the economy.
“What we have noticed, however, is that a lot of people worked late into December – and we were still placing candidates after the 19th December.”
While retrenchments are rare in the IT industry, most other sectors are battling. Mining house, DRD, has announced it is planning to retrench 1 500 workers and the banks are also slimming down their staffing.
